Cloud Video 101

What it is and why you need it

It seems that everyone is talking about “The Cloud” today. Cloud this and cloud that, but what really does all of that chatter mean? Essentially “The Cloud” is a combination of software and services that run on the Internet instead of running on your local computer (or other device). Chances are you’re already using “The Cloud” and may not even know it. Using Apple iCloud, Dropbox, Facebook, Google Drive, Microsoft Office 365, Netflix or Yahoo Mail? They’re all CLOUD based. Otherwise known as data centers, they house hundreds or thousands of servers that store billions of pieces of data in a location other than the one you’re at. There you have it, Cloud Video 101 defined.

 Benefits to you

The benefits to using the cloud for your video system are endless! It saves you money upfront because you don’t have to buy a recorder such as a DVR or NVR which will ultimately die, not to mention that it could be turned off, unplugged, stolen, or destroyed by Mother Nature or the criminal. The Cloud protects you against all of these threats, because there is nothing located on the premises. There is no software to install, maintain or update. Everything is web-based, so you’ll always have the most current version.

But is it safe?

In a word; absolutely! Our technology provides for the most secure type of connection possible. We have integrated 128bit encryption and complex algorithms into our application. Combine this with your unique and private username and password combination, and you have an extremely secure connection.

Is it expensive?

That’s another one of the tremendous benefits of using the cloud. Not only do you not have to spend thousands of dollars buying a recorder, but you only pay for what you use. You choose the subscription plan for each camera that best fits your needs. You can have one camera store video for a few days and another one store it for a few weeks. And you can change at any time. You’re in charge!
